Trail Overview
FS 45 is a scenic, well-maintained dirt road that connects two small mountain towns, Vallecitos and Petaca. This can be considered part three of a fun and relaxing set of trails starting in Abiquiu, and ending up northeast in Tres Piedras. This route features dense pines and the occasional valley overlook. Unlikely you will run into many others and there are a number of dispersed camping locations and side forest services roads to explore. There are a number of unique rock formations and small ponds worth checking out or having lunch nearby. Gas and other services aren't available along this route, beginning, middle, or end. While there are some seasonal streams, be sure to bring all the water needed while exploring FS 45
