Trail Overview
Wolfden can be a challenging trail if all optional challenges are taken. There is a variety of small water crossings, hill climbs that may be off-camber, switchbacks, a handful of large rocks, a few small rock gardens, and medium-to-large drops and ledges. The first section after the trailhead is generally quite wet, though is not generally a risk, as it has a hard bottom. One optional challenge has three well-defined possible routes. The first is a muddy climb that can be a challenge in the wet, the other two are steep ledges that require high ground clearance. Going up the second two is a challenge and requires good tire placement, throttle control, and potentially a spotter, however, going down requires a high departure angle to the shape of the ledge. The final challenge is rather easy though it's bumpy and does not have a bypass. This section is a couple of rocks that have small three to six-inch ledges. None of these obstacles bring much danger, though potential undercarriage damage may be possible when climbing the ledge.

Difficulty
The optional obstacles are difficult, however, most have bypasses. A few sections involve rock gardens, slightly off-camber hill climbs, and smaller ledges around 6 inches. The first section near the trailhead is often quite wet and riddled with large puddles or stream crossings, most of which have a hard bottom.
