Trail Overview

This trail is a little more challenging than some of the more stock-friendly trails in what has become known as the Tar Hollow Trails of Vinton and Hocking County. This road is not maintained with some rutted, muddy, and off-camber areas. It makes for a great beginner trail if you're looking for some challenges. There is one section that is rutted and off-camber, putting you right up against a wall of dirt. This is still considered a legal road for licensed vehicles even though a lot of the locals take their SxSs and ATVs on it.

Difficulty

A minimum of 33-inch tires, a winch, recovery points, and recovery gear are recommended. Expect a couple of rocky sections and a tight, rutted, off-camber section putting the side of your rig very close to a dirt wall. With proper wheel placement, you can make it through with no body damage.

beware of crack heads sitting on the side of the trail!...made it all the way up to the wall section where the rut was at a 45° angle putting you right against a wall, didn't even attempt that part, turned around and drove back, some mud, some rocks, mostly dirt trail.

Due to the huge ruts near the wall section, we didn’t go past this picture. It is very sketchy. We took the bypass around it. I would rate this trail a 6-7 now due to that section. If we went further, there would’ve been body damage due to being pushed into the wall by the ruts and off camber

We were aware that the wall section had a slip earlier this year. Went down to check it out and decided it looked too risky. We turned around and did not attempt this obstacle.

coming through the off camber section. Just tuck your mirror in and ride the wall. Zero body damage even on wall side. drive sensible and you’ll be ok.
