Trail Overview

The trail is one of 2 Jeep Badge of Honor trails in the Tillamook State Forest (Brown's Camp Area), and is among the most popular routes for off-roaders. The trail is open most of the year, weather and fire permitting. During high fire danger, the park has off hours (morning/evening) or may be closed altogether. The draw for this trail comes midway with an uphill climb through a massive rock garden that starts easy but becomes an extremely challenging event. Completing this obstacle leaves one feeling very accomplished. From this point, the trail continues to meander throughout the forest uphill, with a teaser of Crusher Loop up top to the left. Stay straight to complete the trail. Minimum requirements for this trail include 33- to 35-inch tires, front and rear lockers, a winch, and solid driving skills.

Difficulty

Many mapping apps including Jeep's BOH app suggest a 5-7 rating, however, any moisture added will increase the difficulty, and vehicle damage can occur. The uphill rock garden midway is the bulk of this rating; dry or wet; it proves to be a great and demanding challenge.

Access Description

Enter from Highway 6 at the summit by the ODOT Gravel Shed. Just up and to the left is a short trail to the day use/parking area to use for airing up/down, and it has vault toilets. This entrance is 35 miles from the town of Tillamook, Oregon, and about 9 miles from Glenwood, Oregon, both of which have fuel stations (although Glenwood does not have diesel). This trail requires an active mapping system to reach its start (or great memory). It takes about 30 minutes to reach the trailhead from the parking area (near Highway 6/ODOT Gravel Shed).
