Trail Overview
The Francis Marion National Forest, situated north of Charleston, South Carolina, bears the name of the Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, who was dubbed the Swamp Fox by the British. It is nestled within the Middle Atlantic coastal forests ecoregion and is characterized by a subtropical coniferous forest. One of the main access roads on its northern side, this route features two expansive fields ideal for wildlife observation. Additionally, the Francis Marion Weather Station along the route provides an interesting stopover during the drive.
