Trail Overview
This is an out-and-back trail, with the trail ending at the border of neighboring private property. The trail starts behind a wire cattle gate, be sure to always shut the gate behind you. For the first mile, the trail snakes through a wide grassy valley of relatively soft loamy dirt, although you won't have to worry about sinking in unless the soil is wet. Along the trail are several gentle sloping small hills of 10-15 feet, but no steep climbs or sections where exceptionally high clearance would be needed. The last half mile of the trail starts to climb the badland "dunes", which offer a bit more height than the hills experienced earlier in the trail, but are still gently sloped. There is one somewhat steep climb about 0.2 miles from the end of the trail which has some deep ruts of 10-12 inches and has steep drop-offs on either side. Along the entire trail, there is ample room to turn around. You'll likely see abundant wildflowers along the trail in spring and early summer. Wildlife sightings of groundhogs are common, while sightings of bison and deer are more rare but also possible.

Difficulty
The first 1.2 miles of the trail is in the "2" level of difficulty, but the last 0.2 miles has a steep rutted climb that has steep drop-offs on either side. This climb in particular is rated "4". There is ample room to turn around before the climb, so no reason to skip this trail based on that climb alone. An AWD SUV on non-aggressive tires can surmount it.
