Trail Overview

Sanford-Smith Canyon, also known as the Fremont ATV road (30129), offers a stunning journey through diverse landscapes. As you traverse this route, you'll encounter open valleys, dense groves of aspen trees, captivating rock formations, and panoramic vistas of a distant city. The majority of this trail winds its way through the scenic Dixie National Forest, while a small portion passes through BLM land. If you're planning to camp along the way, you'll find a variety of camping spots available, with some accommodating larger groups. For those looking to set up camp or use it as a staging area for their ATVs, there's a spacious parking area within the BLM section. Keep in mind that this road has limited to no cellphone service, and fuel stations are few and far between. To ensure a smooth journey, it's advisable to fill up your tank before embarking on the trail. Depending on your starting point, you can find gas stations in Panguitch and Junction. The majority of this road is easily navigable by a standard 4WD vehicle. However, there is one section that becomes somewhat rocky, making it a potential challenge for vehicles with lower ground clearance.
