Trail Overview
Baby Steps is a 0.7-mile-long intermediate connector trail between Klondike Bluffs and Salt Valley Road (via Jeep Road D3844). It climbs up from the Klondike Bluffs Jeep Trail as a wide dirt trail with lots of loose rock, tight turns, and small ledges, and goes past the ruins of an old cabin. After 0.3 miles, it starts going downhill with lots of slab rock and moderate ledges with lots of loose rocks piled up. It narrows up as it goes downhill with tons of loose rocks on a shelfy trail around the rim of the mesa. Watch out for pinging off all the loose rocks on the downhill. Going up in the opposite direction would make it tough to find traction, making this a harder trail for an ATV. This is a little-known connection between the Klondike Bluffs Trail System and the backway into Arches National Park. No UTVS or ATVs are allowed in the National Park, even street-legal ones, but street-legal dirt bikes/motorcycles could enter the park this way.
