Trail Overview
Big Woods Loop is a route that passes through the Big Woods State Forest and Big Woods Wildlife Management Area. The route is a basic forest road, with the surface being slightly rougher on the state forest side. The route passes through typical southeast Virginia woodland and skirts the Big Woods swamp. You can expect to see the normal fauna of found in southeast Virginia, to include deer, the occasional bear, and plenty of snakes. In the summer months, yellowjackets and biting flies are abundant. When crossing from the state forest side into the WMA, you are required to have A Restore the Wild Membership, Virginia hunting license, freshwater fishing license, boat registration, or an access permit while in the wildlife management area.

Difficulty
The trail surfaces are hardpacked dirt, and should be accessible by any passenger vehicle. The state forest side has some minor uneven areas that could pose some difficulty for passenger cars with low ground clearance.
