Trail Overview

This route combines Mica Road & Upper Outer Limits to form an alternate side path from the main road "Mt Spokane via IEP Backroads". Starting at Junction 9 and heading east, you'll take Mica Road for around 2 miles until you hit Junction 8. From there you can continue on Upper Outer Limits for close to 3 miles and reconnect to the main road on the Idaho side. These roads are maintained and have clear road signs and maps along the way. Cell service is intermittent in this area. IEP gates close seasonally. These roads are open to ORVs and full-size (50" or wider) vehicles from May 15 through October 31. The gates are closed to unauthorized vehicles from November 1 to May 14 but the routes are open to Nordic skiing as well as Skijoring from the parking lot on the Mount Spokane side. ORV vehicles are not allowed in Mount Spokane State Park and must enter from the Spirit Lake side. An Inland Empire Paper land recreation pass is required. You can purchase an annual pass, family annual pass or individual day pass either online or at a few nearby locations. Or you can purchase a day pass at the Brickel Creek Gate with cash from the gate attendant. Check their website for more information, as well as their land use rules.

Difficulty

These roads are maintained during the summer and are typically in decent shape. IEP owns most of this area so you may see logging equipment along the trails. This route may require slightly more ground clearance than the main route, and 4WD may be required during mud or snow conditions. Active logging will change the road conditions. Cell service is intermittent in this area.
