Canyon Rim Road

some of the "puddles" were pretty deep and hiding large rocks. the washout close to midway on the trail pushed the limits of my stock hight yukon. luckily a guy in a highlander helped spot me through it, otherwise I'd likely have turned around. the one overlook we stopped at was breathtaking. and we had it all to ourselves.

Nice ride. Starting from 219 we went up to the fire tower first. From there we went on up FR18 to the Big Run Waterfall trail and the canyon overlook. All 3 of those or near 219. I've been driving this road for 8 years or so and it has definitely deteriorated in that time. Not a difficult ride but there is a lot of exposed rock and lots of water on the trail. There is really no mud to speak of but some of the puddles hide some rocks to be careful of. In addition to the canyon overlook there are a lot of beautiful views along the trail There are 2 exposed culverts and one significant washout on the trail to be aware of. There are 2 small creek crossings as well. I was able to navigate it pretty easily in a stock 24 Rubicon. I scraped a little at the washout but a better line could have avoided it. The concrete culvert always catches me a little too but nothing bad. This is one of my favorite drives. It is not much traveled and the view from the overlook is stunning.

Very rough trail with lots of small mud holes and large/deep puddles that might cause problems for low vehicles. The two primary obstacles are large washouts that will be impassible for anything without good ground clearance and 4x4. One washout requires driving over an exposed and damaged culvert pipe so any particularly heavy vehicles may want to take caution. Fantastic views all along the way!
