Trail Overview

New River Gorge OHV Route is a 12.5-mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Prince, West Virginia, that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for OHV/off-road driving and is best used from September until October. This trail has some beautiful overlooks down onto the New River and some challenging spots along the way. Be careful: many places are only wide enough for one vehicle.

Difficulty

There are a few rutted-out places. Be careful and you can get most any vehicle through here. There's one spot that is washed out and it's a man-made trail fix.

Beautiful scenic trail. Between Thayer and Prince the trail is not maintained. It is a little rocky but easily possible by almost any vehicle with mid ground clearance. Nothing challenging just go slow. Gets a tad tight in some spots but no pin-striping. Thayer to Thurmond is well maintained gravel road. HIGHLY recommend taking an hour and a half and doing this drive. Incredible views and the trees are unreal this time of year.

At the south end of the trail there are a few spots a little washed out, the north end is well maintained gravel. Road bed is rocky and the dirt areas are silty and not slippery like clay. There was no other traffic towards the south end, but there were a few people out hunting towards the north
