Trail Overview

This well-maintained wide route is a great access road to get to the main staging area for the Wild Bill OHV Trail network. The trail is decently graded, with only a few minor potholes and plenty of room to pass oncoming vehicles. The posted speed is 20 mph as it passes through residential land the entire way. In the dryer months, it is important to keep the dust down. At the staging area, there is ample parking for rigs with trailers. There is a very informative kiosk and a decently clean pit toilet. This is a great place to drop the toys and loop the area for the day. There is no cell service on this section of the trail or at the staging area. "No camping" signs were posted, but it would be a busy/dusty area to call it a night.

Difficulty

This is accessible with any vehicle in the dry summer months. There may or may not be winter maintenance. Take precautions during the wet and snowy seasons. The trail is wide with some potholes.

History

The Blacktail Wild Bill OHV trail was designated a National OHV trail in 1979. Over the years, two local clubs (Skyliners and Big Sky 4 Wheelers) have maintained the trail and built challenging features. The clubs have work weekends where they clean trash and do maintenance on the trail. In 2018 and 2019, Big Sky 4 Wheelers worked with the Forest Service to build and install kiosks on the trail to identify trail routes.
