Trail Overview
Sand Dune Gulch is a 2.7-mile looping trail rated 8 of 10 located in Uintah County, Utah. The trail is well known to locals and is run during both the Vernal Rock Rally and the Outlaw ATV Jamboree. Don't let the name fool you, these are not sand dunes like at the beach, these are solid sand rocks that tower hundreds of feet high. There are several known trails through this area. Sand Dune Gulch is a difficult trail that winds through a tight gulch with several extremely off-camber bends and other spots that could incur minor body damage if you don't take the right line through the turn. There are several unnamed waterfall obstacles that take experienced driving capabilities, and often significant throttle control and commitment. This scenic trail has some interesting-looking rock formations that aren't just amazing to drive on, but many are simply picturesque. Although the trail is available year-round, use is not advisable if there is snow on the trail. Cell phone service is intermittent.
