Redwater

Trail Overview

Redwater is one of the more challenging trails in the northern portion of the Guadalupe Mountain range. The trail can be accessed via Anderson/Panama (FS518/FS5514) from its north, or from the south off Corkscrew/FS322B. The trail is primarily rock with some obstacles in excess of 18" in a dry canyon river bed and lines must be chosen carefully. Large loose rocks and larger rock gardens make up a majority of the obstacles, with some sections of softer dirt having ruts and erosion approximately 12" to 15" in depth. There are several washes along the trail and a few have short steep grades in and out. A portion of the trail is on private land, be sure to stay on the main section of the road. Due to the location of the trail and the terrain, there are no places to disperse camp and cell service is extremely limited. Once in the canyon views are very limited. The trail is single-vehicle wide with very little room to pass and almost no room to turn around. The trail should be run with a modified 4x4 with proper ground clearance. Take note of the weather before entering this trail as it is a waterway and may be prone to flooding.

Difficulty

Expect large rocks in excess of 18", large rock gardens, steps, and ledges. Youll find steep grades, loose rocks, and potential for deep water and deep water crossings. There is also deep rutting some off-camber sections.
