Trail Overview
Going up and over one of the high points in the north part of Red Cliffs Recreation Area, you find the overlook of Leeds, Silver Reef, and a fantastic view of Trail, Signal, and Burger Peaks. The trail has a sign that clearly says it's a dead end, and it, in fact, ends nearly in a "suburb" of Leeds. You go by some cool rock formations, traveling north/northwest from Northeast Access Red Cliffs Rec Area Trail. From the high point, 3868 feet above sea level, the views are spectacular in every direction. Zion National Park, Sand Hollow State Park, Hurricane, and the peaks I mentioned above. This is a short dead-end trail, but if you enjoy the views, you won't want to miss this one. Other featured trails in the Red Cliffs Recreation Area include Red Cliffs Rec Area to Virgin River, Red Cliffs Hidden Canyons View, Backdoor to Babylon Trail, Backdoor to Babylon Loop, Backdoor to Babylon Wash, Northeast Access Red Cliffs Rec Area and Rocky Sandbox Loop. Other activities in this area include hiking to the Old Toquerville Mine, Sandstone Mountain, Sand Cove, or the Arch. You can also fish at the Virgin River if you've got your fishing license. Opportunities for exploring and photographing this beautiful part of Southern Utah abound! To locate this trail, from Leeds or Toquerville, take North Old Highway 91 to the Northeast Access Red Cliffs Rec Area Trail. Follow Northeast Access to this trail. There is a staging area at the intersection of Highway 91 and Northeast Access. Starting Feb 2023, Utah began enforcement of its new law, which requires an online education course for all off-roaders. The free course is available online. Google "Utah OHV Education Course," and the free test will pop up. It's an easy test that will only take 15-30 minutes, and it's required for all off-roaders, Jeeps, SXSs, dirt bikes, and ATVs. Kids under the age of 18 will have to take the Youth Education Test at the same site. After completing the test, print out the certificate to carry with you which shows you completed the course. We have taken it, and it's really no big deal. Good reminders about trail etiquette and trail preservation.
