Trail Overview
Heart Bar Peak, or 1N38, is a fun out and back trail off Highway 38 in the San Bernardino Mountains. This trail makes for a great addition to a Big Bear trip or for those camping in the area. The first 3/4 of the trail is relatively mild, with great views of the surrounding wilderness. The final 1/4 of the trail up to the peak is where the trail earns its black diamond rating from the Forest Service. This section features very steep and extremely loose rocky climbs to the top. While there is no single large obstacle, the loose terrain mandates lower tire pressures and may have you engaging your lockers or wishing that you had them. Make sure to take some time to enjoy the top of this trail, as it is one of the better viewpoints and lunch spots in the area.
