Trail Overview
Bill Williams Mountain is an iconic piece of Northern Arizona History, named after William Sherley "Old Bill" Williams who was a noted mountain man and frontiersman. The top of this mountain is populated by a number of radio towers and a fire watchtower, which can be seen for miles in the surrounding territory. Rocky from the start, this trail is no challenge, though the hairpin turns and dust urge you to take your time. It's a maintained shelf road, though not in the winter, as there is a gate at the access point. Though it is mostly one way, you'll find pullouts for slower traffic and passing, as it tends to get narrower the higher you climb. Once at the summit, you'll be treated to views of the beautiful Arizona landscape, with ridges of red rock, expansive valleys, and, on a clear day, you might even see the Grand Canyon to the North.
