Trail Overview

This dirt road is a scenic drive in the Grandfather District of Pisgah National Forest. It is open year-round and can be traveled in either direction. Gravel bikes and mountain bikes are popular on this road. There are 2 mountain bike trails that either start or finish on this road. There are some camping spots along the road, most suited for tent camping.

First time off roading so can’t compare it to anything else, but it was very desolate. I saw three other vehicles and one bicycle the entire time. We started in Blowing Rock, went down globe rd and then over to the trail. Mostly gravel road with some small ruts and rocks to maneuver. It started raining about half way through but still never had to use four wheel drive.

The trail rating would be a 1 if it wasn't for the width. The southern half is about a lane and a half wide with numerous areas to pull off so people can pass. The northern half is 1 lane wide with fewer pull-offs. The northern half requires some ground clearance for the ruts, but none of the trail required 4wd in dry conditions.

There were two large trees blocking the road, thankfully we ran into another group who had a saw and we were able to clear the blockages.
