Bluewater Canyon

Trail Overview

Bluewater Canyon is a longer trail that treks along a heavily wooded area in the southern portion of Lincoln National Forest that ends with a well-hidden dispersed campsite. The surface of the trail begins with a combination of dirt and rock with some areas being lightly off camber and rutting, and gradually turning to dirt with some larger muddy areas after rain or snow melt but overall is well maintained. This trail does show signs of burn scar and is prone to prescribed burns so be sure to check for closures. Downed trees are very common in the area with some blocking the trail. The trail has several dispersed campsites along the route, and a few spurs and hiking trails can also be found along the way. There are spots with the potential for shallow water crossings but will be very muddy and slippery. There is no cellphone service in this area. The trail is wide enough to pass other vehicles if necessary with some small sections being one vehicle wide due to trees and NFS service piles. Wildlife is very heavy in this area and includes elk, deer, coyotes, mountain lions, and more. Views become very limited as you go further south and the trail becomes more surrounded by dense areas of taller pines. The trail will be easily done with most 4x4 vehicles with appropriate tires to handle the softer muddy areas.
