Trail Overview
Lower Arroyo de Los Pinos is an essential trail often used to access the larger trail system in the area. It branches directly off Quebradas Backcountry Byway Road and is located just shortly after the major staging area. This trail is relatively easy but does begin with a somewhat steep descent into the arroyo wash. Just as you drop into the wash lies Ojo de Amado, a spring featuring cliffs of the Gray Mesa Formation within the Pennsylvanian Madera Group. The Ojo de Amado is also known to locals as Bursum Springs, one of several geographic features in the state, and is worth the short hike further up the wash. Once you are in the wash, some small boulder fields are easily avoidable, and then it opens to mostly a sandy arroyo wash.
