Trail Overview
Tonto is a tight and windy desert trail through scrub oak thickets. It's designated for 50" vehicles, but is more like a wide single track, as it has become narrower over time from being mostly ridden by dirt bikes. It would be hard for an ATV due to narrowness, and an ATV rider would be getting brushed by the spiky bushes the whole time. It's a pretty fast and flowy trail that is smooth and not full of loose rocks. There are a couple of sections with embedded boulders and little drop-offs, but these are the only obstacles. It has a mix of traversing across the hillsides, riding atop a ridge line, and dipping in and out of the bottom of a dry river bed. The east end starts at the Contreras Trailhead across from Box Culvert. The trail starts as a powerline road, and then the 50" trail starts from behind one of the towers. It pops onto the road again for another small segment or two but eventually gets away from the power line road. The west end widens up as it continues atop a wide ridge line with some whoops and washouts, and you have to go through a couple of gates.

Difficulty
This is an easy trail for dirt bikers with lots of curves but would be difficult for an ATV due to becoming more narrow over time.
