Twister Wash

Trail Overview

Twister Wash is a 5.1-mile trail that starts at the I-15 exit 27 Black Rock Road about 20 minutes south of St. George, UT. This trail is rated 3 of 10 and is comprised mostly of dirt and sand wash tracks. Twister Wash is one of four connecting trails that creates a loop known locally as Elephants, Virgins, and Things. The connecting trails are West Mountain Valley Wash, Starvation Point, and Black Rock Trail. This trail combination is generally run in a counterclockwise manner but can be run in either direction. Twister Wash has impressive views of the sandstone buttes and has two key elements along the trail. The Twister Wash itself is a winding section of the trail through a narrow wash that will challenge the flex on a stock vehicle. After exiting the wash the trail takes you to an area of five sink holes which occurred naturally in the early 1950s. Weather permitting you and drive through at least one of the sinkholes. The trail will continue to loop around with a nice overlook of the Virgin River and end at the intersection with West Mountain Valley Wash trail. The namesake for these trails is combined by the view of Elephant Rock (on Starvation Point trail), the views and ability to walk to the Virgin River on the West Mountain Valley Wash trail, and the Things being the sinkholes.

Trail consisting of loose rocks, dirt, and sand with some slick rock surfaces, mud holes possible, no steps higher than 12". 4WD is required, and aggressive tires are a plus.
