Trail Overview

Fins & Things, located in the Sand Flats Recreation Area in Moab, is accessible from the Sand Flats road. A one-day pass for private vehicles is $5, a 7-day pass is $10, and an annual pass is $25. Out of state ATVs or UTVs require a permit. OHV permits are valid for 12 months and cost $30. Passes and permits are available online only. As of January 1, 2023, all OHV operators must complete the Utah Off-Highway vehicle education course, also available online. Fins & Things features the famous "slick rock" sandstone of Moab. This is a one-way road only, and it is clearly marked. Prepare for steep climbs and descents, deep sand, and loose rocks. A challenging trail with precarious terrain, Fins and Things is recommended for experienced drivers. This is trail is a great example of what Moab has to offer.

Difficulty

The trail consists of loose rock, dirt, and sand with some slickrock surfaces. There is some erosion, in addition to washes, gulches, and rock steps no higher than 18 inches. Tall tires (33 inches or greater) and limited slip are a plus. 4WD is required. Enhanced suspension travel and good ground clearance are helpful. Good driving skills are also a plus.

Access Description

From S 400 E, on the east side of Moab, take Mill Creek Drive east 0.5 miles. Continue straight uphill at the cemetery on Sand Flats Road. After 1.7 miles, enter Sand Flats Recreation Area and pay the fee. Continue another 1.9 miles to Campground E on the right.
