Trail Overview
Gold Gulch is a beautiful ride, up through the canyon on a narrow, winding road, barely wide enough to meet another car in most places, rising almost 3000 feet to the beautiful Little Pork Lake. The views of the peaks to the west and the valley to the east are amazing. We rode it in early June, and the wildflowers and flowering bushes were stunning. You find some old cabins and mining sites, revealing the rich mining history of this area. There are some nice side trips and spur trails up in this area, too, all full-width. Some of these trails ride along the side of the mountains with no place to turn around except maybe at one of the hairpin turns and no passing room if you meet another car. The trails are not hard, but they do require paying attention. If you ride this area in the early spring, the run-off will make this road muddy. In places, it runs down the road, and there is evidence of erosion where that occurs. Don't forget, to off-road in UT you need to have the online education course certificate as well as the OHV sticker.
