Trail Overview
501 is an easy 50" trail for dirt bikes and ATVs but is slightly harder for ATVs due to steep climbs and lots of whoops. The trail is a wide ridge line path across a series of green rolling hills in the Boise National Forest. It's two-track width the whole way on a dirt surface, and the dirt is a little bit sandy. There are only a couple of sections with loose small rocks in the trail. There's a bunch of easy hill climbs up a hill then it goes down the back side of the hill to a saddle and back up the next hill. It continues like this the whole way with steep ups and downs. The most difficult part of the trail is that it's rutted out on one side for most of the trail with ruts from erosion and moisture. In spring you might see some mud puddles in the low parts of the trail, and in summer it's likely to be really hot and dusty. Since you are on a ridge the whole way, you'll have really nice views of the rolling mountains the whole time. There are a lot of blind hills as you crest the top of each hill climb, but you can see for a while when on top of the ridge line to see if anyone is coming for the next several hills. There are lots of whoops in the trail, adding an additional challenge. This trail connects two of the staging areas for this trail system, the Three Point Mountain Trailhead, and the Bender Creek Trailhead. This is a very busy riding area for both ATVers and dirt bike riders.
