At its peak, the trail offers breathtaking vistas of the mountains towards Tecate and extends into the distant United States.Descending from this vantage point involves a sharp left turn, leading into a tranquil area shaded by ancient oak trees along the lower section of the road. Further along, another ascent unveils a reservoir, nestled above a dam, offering several scenic camping spots. During weekends, expect bustling crowds akin to those found at popular lakeside retreats.Continuing around the reservoir involves navigating undulating terrain, eventually leading to a steep descent characterized by broken pavement and dirt. This swiftly brings you over a toll road bridge and onto Mexican Highway 2 just outside Tecate. Despite its accessibility and popularity among locals, assistance is readily available, making this route ideal for those seeking a scenic off-road adventure without venturing too far from civilization.

Difficulty

Although this route is not particularly difficult, there are steep grades that may require 4WD in wet conditions or following storms. Vehicles taller than 8 feet may struggle with tree clearance and are recommended to access the lake from the Tecate side.
