Trail Overview
Black Canyon Road (BLM 1007) is a connector trail from Highway 101 down to Hidden Canyon. BLM 1007 does continue further south another 10 or so miles, connecting with the Grand Gulch Mine trail. Black Canyon Road is nice and wide for full-size vehicles to easily travel with enough room to allow vehicles to pass one another--2WD friendly. Towards the middle of the trail is where you'll encounter Black Canyon: a short stretch of canyon with stark, volcanic black rocks and scattered Joshua trees. The trail will have you cross sweeping plateaus and weaving through mountain valleys. Several times the trail crosses river washes, which may or may not have water present. Use caution in wet conditions, as flash floods do happen in this region. There are a handful of ranching corrals along the route, some of which are certainly active. Livestock are free-roaming and can be on the trail, so be on the lookout. The Arizona Strip is incredibly remote with no service and hardly any visitors. Summer months will reach triple-digit temperatures and freezing temperatures in the winter months. Be prepared when venturing out here.

History
The Arizona Strip is a vast arid region on the north side of the Grand Canyon that encompasses a variety of landscapes and climates within its nearly 3 million acres, over 6,000 miles of unpaved trails, as well as centuries of human history. Artifacts dating back 8,000 years indicate the long human habitation of this harsh landscape.
