Trail Overview
The Date Creek Cutoff is a rocky trail. As you go from south to north, the trail narrows, with paint damage guaranteed in some places. There are numerous wash crossings, as well as sections with erosion that might be off-camber and challenging with rain events throughout the year. Flanked by cactus, scrub brush, and Burberry bushes, this route might boast jackrabbits and various types of birds. The views along this trail are beautiful, so feel free to take your time. There is no cell service along this trail, so offline maps are recommended. This land requires a yearly permit that can be purchased and printed online. The permit allows certain recreational activities, including camping, bicycling, bird watching, GPS-based recreational activities (geocaching), hiking, horseback riding, off-highway vehicle (OHV) usage, photography, picnicking, and sightseeing.
