Trail Overview
FR 39 is an interesting trail that meanders its way through the mixed pine and Juniper trees that make up this section of the Kaibab National Forest. Wide and dirt, this trail turns rocky as it passes an area known for mining large sandstone rock blocks. There are sporadic rock gardens, and a long, steep, rocky downhill (when coming from the North) that urge a low gear and controlled descent. Other than that, there are no obstacles on this trail over 12", though erosion and wash crossings are plentiful, so a high-clearance vehicle is recommended.
