Trail Overview

The Happy Valley Road winds past the charming historic movie town of Mescal. It travels through verdant riparian zones and expansive grasslands of the surrounding ranches. Along the way, you can find several idyllic dispersed campsites suitable for travel trailers or smaller RVs, as well as many others perfect for tents. Cell service is incredibly patchy, so download your map prior to your trip. Be aware of open-range cattle that line and occasionally block the trail.

Difficulty

Happy Valley's charm fluctuates with the seasons, especially evident at the Ash Creek crossings. During winter, the crossings transform into either deep sand or tranquil water, offering an ideal time for exploration. With Gambel oaks adorned in their foliage, pleasant temperatures, and flowing water, the scenery becomes enchanting. Combining the trail with Old Happy Valley Road and Turkey Creek Springs promises a delightful day of trail riding amidst breathtaking landscapes. Initially smooth, the trail gradually challenges riders with rocky terrain, particularly after passing the closed-off Mescal movie set. Vigilance and a slower pace become necessary as rough dirt and rocky stream crossings demand attention.
