Trail Overview
This is an extremely scenic and fairly technical trail that has everything the southwest high desert has to offer. The trail may be tackled from east the west or west to east. Riding west to east, you'll enter the trail from a fairly wide and deep sand wash then proceed on fairly flat terrain through ever taller, steeper, narrower rock and sand-stone sidewalls. In early March, everything should be blooming, adding to the spectacular experience of tracking through ever-steepening tilted rock strata that are mind-blowingly beautiful. Amid the narrow steep canyon sidewalls, there is a nicely-constructed marker honoring someone who recently passed away. The wash winds around until it reaches the end of a box canyon where a fairly technical, steep, winding, rocky trail leads up and out of the canyon. From there, it reaches what seems to be a top-of-the-world ridgeline view of the surrounding peaks and valleys, on a narrow ridgetop trail that winds around from north to south to the end of this trail. At this point, you can decide to proceed straight south on the Klothos Southwest Southern Spur which winds around on the ridgetops down the Muggins Mountain main road, or take a plunging left turn down a steep escarpment on the Klothos Southwest Eastern Spur trail that will lead you back to the Klothos Temple Loop just south of the Panty Tree.
