Trail Overview
The Slate Mountain Gateway is a single-lane dirt road that takes you up from the open meadow and prairie into the dense Juniper trees of the Kaibab National Forest. Popular with hunters, you'll find the road is well-traveled at certain times of the year. You'll find no obstacles over 12" on this trail, though there are some shallow mud ruts and a few rocky areas. Evidence of antelope, mule deer, elk, and cattle abounds along this trail.

Difficulty
The mud ruts on this trail and the single lane status make it a 2, and as you proceed up the hill, the trees get more dense with fewer places to turn around or pass other vehicles.
