Trail Overview
The Volcano Bumps trail is a bumpy, rocky trail. There are no obstacles on this trail, but there is erosion and water damage throughout, making it a bit of a slow go. The cell service along this trail is in and out/iffy at best, so it's a good decision to have offline maps downloaded. The views along this trail, especially along the top, are amazing. One can see all the way to the Navajo Reservation, and indeed, that's where the trail is headed. The dark rock, especially along the shelf road section reminds us of the complicated geology of the area and is a beautiful contrast to the lighter tones of the grasses and sky. Along this trail, you might see elk, antelope, deer, coyote, prairie dogs, and various bird species.
