Trail Overview
The White Horse Traverse is a beautiful one-lane trail that has no major obstacles on it. This trail traverses from the mountainside mixed-terrain of Ponderosa Pines and grassland to the Juniper Trees and scrub brush further North. I recommend driving this trail from South to North to take in the views of the high desert and the Navajo Reservation in the distance from the top of the ridge. Along the way, you'll encounter rock gardens, water and erosion damage, and wash crossings. Some of the wash crossings will drop you off-camber, but it's not anything that would ruin your day. This area is popular with hunters, and you'll find sporadic campsites toward each end of the trail, with primitive rock fire rings. As always, please check local forest service regulations for fire allowance and rules, as this area is prone to large and uncontrollable wildfires.
