Trail Overview
Windmill Cross happens to be a dirt, one-lane trail with no obstacles on it. The trail's main purpose appears to be to support hunters in this region in getting to a remote camp here in the knobs area. There are sporadic camps with primitive fire rings along this and many other trails in the area. As always, please check local forest service regulations for fire safety and practices as this area is prone to large and uncontrollable wildfires. There were two bars of Verizon service along this trail, but that can quickly fall off the more remote one gets, so it's a good idea to have offline maps downloaded. Along this trail, you might see elk, deer, antelope, coyote, prairie dog towns, and various species of birdlife.
