Trail Overview
Aurora Cutoff R14 is a narrow two-track trail that traces the top of a ridge, leading you toward the historic Aurora Mine. This scenic route offers plenty of opportunities to explore single-track trails branching off to either side, inviting you to venture deeper into the area's rugged beauty. The main trail itself is somewhat rutted and can potentially be muddy, but it remains manageable for most vehicles, presenting an overall uncomplicated drive. As you traverse this path, you'll encounter numerous tailing piles left behind from years of mining activity, providing a glimpse into the area's rich history. Once you cross the ridge, the trail transforms into a series of steep and loose switchbacks as you descend the mountain. Be especially cautious during wet conditions, as these areas can become very slippery, demanding careful handling of your vehicle. The steep, tight sections offer a thrilling challenge, with plenty of evidence of single-track trails winding up and down the remnants of the old Aurora Mine. Important Note: Remember that there is no cell service along this trail, making it essential to download your offline maps before heading out. Prepare adequately for your adventure with enough water and supplies, and be mindful of changing trail conditions.
