Trail Overview

This last section of the Cady Mountain Loop exits the sand wash and takes you across the desert floor northeast until you reach the railroad tracks. It then makes a sharp left turn and follows the tracks back to the train trestle and the entrance to Afton Canyon. The trail is mostly hard-packed but there are sections of soft sand. The trail can be difficult to follow as flash flooding has changed the direction in a few areas and made the trail almost impossible to see. If you continue northeast, you will find the trail again but it may disappear several more times. Since there is no way across the railroad tracks, just continue until you reach them and turn left.

Access Description

This is the last section of the Cady Mountain Loop. If you began with Loop 1 and made it through Loop 5, you will start this section as you leave the canyon and the wide sand wash and drop into the desert floor. The Cady Mountain Loop can be run in the opposite direction by starting with Loop 6 and continuing to Loop 1. If you are doing this in the early morning, running it backwards may keep the sun at your back.
