Easy: Steep in a few places and one short stretch is a bit rocky. Snow sometimes lingers well into July. Compacted volcanic pumice can be dusty. Suitable for any stock 4x4 SUV.

There has been no maintenance on this trail for some time. The lower part of the trail is badly rutted. At a Narrow point between to pine trees there are large tree roots out into the trail. It is seriously rutted out before and after the roots. You need clearance. A subaru isn't going to make it up this trail.

This is great trail to do if you are in Mammoth Lakes. Its relatively easy and short with a few obstacles mainly being a couple tight spots, washouts, and ruts. The forest has some unique trees and the views are incredible. Had the trail to ourselves on a holiday weekend which made it that much more special.

couple sections of this trail have deep ruts that 4x4 might be required. One rocky section aswell, I would say it’s about a 3 rating now. Great view of the wilderness areas aswell as looking towards mammoth mountain

Open dusty easy trail if you are comfortable with driving the high ridge up top. Incredible views worth the short trip.

Access Description

Take Highway 203 west into Mammoth Lakes from Highway 395. About 1.3 miles after the wellmarked visitor center, follow 203 right uphill towards Mammoth Ski Area. Continue west about 5 more miles. Turn right on a paved road just before Minaret Vista Entry Station. Go north 200 feet to dirt road on right just after a dirt pullover area.
