Trail Overview
This is a scenic 10-mile section of trail located directly off Highway 95 through the Mojave Desert, leading you to Section 4 of the Eastern Mojave Heritage Trail. There is a large pull-out at the beginning right off the highway that is perfect to let some air out of those tires--it may be necessary for traction in the deep sand. It definitely adds much more comfort. As you traverse the sandy terrain across multiple washes, you begin to feel the absolute vastness of the Mojave. Bordering the Step Ladder Wilderness area, you soak up all the amazing views of the surrounding mountain ranges. You truly begin to appreciate the beauty of the desert. Be sure to be on the lookout for desert tortoises as you go because they can look like rocks on the trail.

Difficulty
Spring and fall are the best times to see the different colors of this desert. The sand can be quite deep in sections. Depending on the time of year and any recent rains, the trail conditions can change. Avoid this in the summer, as the heat could get quite unbearable. If you do decide to travel in the summer months, make sure to bring plenty of water.
