Trail Overview
The Basin Butte - Prospect Creek Single track is a fun trail through the Challis National Forest that is on the easier side. The south end starts in a burn area above 8,000 feet, and it gradually drops down to Prospect Creek as it goes north. You have to navigate a couple of little stream crossings and muddy ruts, but there are also several wooden bridges over marshy sections. It stays within the burn area, so there are tons of downed logs on the sides of the trail, and always potential for uncut logs blocking the trail that will need to be cut or navigated. The trail is pretty smooth and easy, with only a little bit of small embedded rocks. It continues through a flat grassy valley below the surrounding mountains as it goes north. There is one steeper rockier downhill with bigger embedded rocks that is a moderate challenge.
