Trail Overview
This 14 mile road will take you to the Chair Point Lookout in the Nez Perce National Forest with amazing views of the Salmon River. The road is an easy gravel road that rises to an elevation of just under 7,000 feet. The lookout was constructed in 1931, with the present structure being remodeled in 1980. In 2015 the tower was wrapped in foil to protect it from the TeePee Springs Fire, which you can see the remnants of as you drive up the to the lookout. The fire lookout is staffed in the summer months so please be respectful as you are visiting someone's space. As always remember pack it in, pack it out.
