Trail Overview
Deer Ridge is USFS roads #2541 and #2540 in the Kaniksu National Forest which leads to Deer Ridge Lookout. The road is a moderately used, well-maintained, single-lane, gravel road with multiple offshoot roads and trails. The road is a mild 6% grade or less and easily traveled, though weather and conditions may change the difficulty. This is a popular area for hunting and logging activities, with grouse, deer, elk, and grizzly bears present. There is an outhouse at the fire lookout which may be locked, and there is no garbage service. The 40' tall fire lookout is no longer used by the USFS but can be rented from June 1st through October 6th for overnight stays at recreation.gov. Booking starts December 1st. The cabin area is 14'x14' and has two twin beds. No water is available on this route. No camping is allowed near the lookout tower.
