Trail Overview
This is an advanced single track in the St. Joe National Forest that starts off Rye Creek Road with a very technical series of switchbacks that are very tight with rocks, boulders, and big roots. You gain a bunch of elevation in the beginning through 20 or so steep switchbacks before getting to the top of a ridge line on the mountain. There are side-hill sections with exposure in between each switchback. It has more steep rooted climbs before mellowing out on top of the mountain, after gaining most of your elevation. As of summer 2024, the trail has been cleared of many big downed logs, but there is always potential for more downfall here, especially in the early season before it gets cut. There are also lots of overgrown bushes and branches extending over this narrow trail that make visibility hard in spots. It goes along the ridgeline and up to the Cedar Mountain ruins, with several more loose rocky climbs, and goes through rock gardens and scree fields that add even more of a technical challenge. The west end of the trail connects with the Cedar Mountain singletrack.
