Trail Overview

If you are looking for a challenge, this trail is for you. Red Trail has signs marked in 1 direction like all the marked trails at Badlands Offroad Park. It starts off fairly mild on some narrow wooded paths near The Bottoms, followed by some mild rock crawling near the main road. Eventually, it runs over to the "Fingers" area where there are several steep "up and over" type climbs with a very high chance of getting turtled/high centered if you aren't careful, and some very tight rock trails that parallel the easier paths at the bottom. There are several very steep challenging climbs, although there is a bypass for the most difficult climbs. The trail focuses more on climbs and rock gardens, but you will encounter sand, mud, and water as well. You will often cross paths with or run parallel with "Orange" and "Yellow trails", Just watch for the signs. Note: The Orange signs look very similar to the red signs. "Most" Red signs have a black arrow, while a lot of the Orange signs have a white arrow (but not all of them.) Body damage is very likely, especially in full-bodied vehicles. SXS will fit the narrow paths a little better.

Difficulty

The first half of the trail is more in the 5-6 range, with the trail progressively gaining difficulty. There are some near-vertical climbs approaching a 9 rating, however they do have a bypass. Overall a nice tight technical trail with a variety of hazards and fun rock sections. Expect pinstriping and tree-related body damage in SUVs/vehicles and even SXS's, as well as rock damage underneath. Skid plates/lockers are recommended. While ATVs and dirt bikes are allowed, there are areas that will be a major struggle for them.
