Trail Overview
Dowling Creek Trail (NFS 5406) is a seasonal bidirectional trail located within the Manistee National Forest. Starting from the south end, you'll begin on a smooth gravel trail that runs alongside private property. PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of local landowners so future generations can have access to these trails! As you weave along the trail, you'll come across some washouts. These typically aren't bad, but something to be noted. As you continue, you'll pass an abundance of wildflowers along the trail. This is a trail that should be taken slowly to ensure you can take in its beauty. There are a couple of spots right along the trail to view the creek as well as lots of wildflowers in the area. The creek is very clear and has a picturesque backdrop. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. This is not a difficult trail at all, but it still contains a lot of beauty and gives access to other great trails nearby. The north end of the trail finishes at the Caberfae Highway (M-55). Regardless of the conditions, this is an epic trail!
