Trail Overview
The Faupell Lake Loop consists of Forest Service Roads 9537 and 9538. This loop is an easy, fun off-road trail for those who are looking for a serene lake out in the calm of nature. This loop is located near the Timbers Edge Campground. This trail is very easy with nothing technical at all. Most of the trail is a combination of sand and dirt and weaves through a beautiful forest with great fall foliage. Some sections aren't traveled very often and can get a bit tight with tree branches overhanging the trail. Use caution if you're looking to avoid pinstripes. Faupell Lake, at the midway point in this loop, is a wonderful spot to stop and have a break to stretch your legs, have some lunch, and enjoy the outdoors. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause mud/water holes that can get rutted out quickly. Most of this trail is only wide enough for one vehicle. There are a few spots to pass, but they are few and far between. The opening at Faupell Lake is host to a large area for dispersed campsites. Although this is a short trail loop, enjoy it, because there aren't many like it in this area.
