Trail Overview
Shannon Bunkhouse trail is accessed from Lake Como Road and follows the first 3 miles of the Up and Up trail. After 3 miles of the Up and Up trail, there is an open area that is fairly flat. On the right side is a great view of Lake Como, and on the left is the beginning of the Shannon Bunkhouse trail. This trail is a pretty easy drive or ride. It starts as an average gravel Forest Service road but turns more to dirt with vegetation. The traffic on this trail is very low so you shouldn't have to worry about running into someone going the other direction. There are some rocky sections but nothing hard to get through. You can take a full-width vehicle, but if you care about your paint job, maybe skip this one--there are some overgrown bushes. This is just a fun little trail to do while you are already in the area hitting other trails. The views of Lake Como and the valley towards Hamilton are great from the beginning of the trail. The views up Tin Cup Canyon and the valley south of Darby are great at the end of the trail. The trail ends at gated private property, so you will need to turn around and head back the way you came.
