Trail Overview
Upper Mesa trail is one of a network of trails in the area called Glade North. It is an easy drive with beautiful views of northwest New Mexico's high desert. Many of the canyon walls are multi-colored, with shades of purple, blue, red-orange, and grey. There are also numerous rock formations, including large towers that are many stories tall. Most of this drive is a hard-packed dirt road with some sandy areas and dry wash crossings. There are a couple of steep sections, but they are smooth and grippy so still very easy. Some areas have been washed out from previous rains. While driving this in a small car is not recommended, SUVs and pickups will have no problems. Four-wheel drive is not necessary for this scenic drive.
