Trail Overview
FS271 changes names at the trail's south end from Long Canyon to Board Canyon. The route is decently maintained; however, it does show signs of rutting some low-lying areas prone to wash after rains and potential shallow water crossings. The surface is primarily dirt with some rocky areas. The trail is wide enough for two vehicles, with a few narrower areas. There are several dispersed camping areas and a few spurs for motorized and hiking access. The trail connects from Jim Lewis Canyon and goes south, connecting to Bluewater Canyon. A spur towards the southern end will take you to the Clarissa Lookout, which only appears to be a hiking trail. There is no cell coverage in this area. This area is prone to prescribed FS fuel burns; check for closures.
